Joey Martinez Bio:

Joy Martinez enters his 11th year as Head Men’s Wrestling Coach of his almamater, Menlo College. Coach Martinez is also the Director of Wrestling for both men’s and women’s team. He served as assistant coach 4 years prior to taking over the control of the Men’s Wrestling program. In 10 years, 21 Oak Wrestlers have earned NAIA All-American recognition, including National Champions in 2017 and 2019, while an impressive 22 Oak Wrestlers have acquired spots on the NWCA/NAIA All-Academic Team. Martinez was named the 2018 Theraworx NWCA Coach of the Year award after guiding the Oaks to a top-ten finish nationally, and did so again with an 8th place finish 2019.

Martinez was 1 of 6 inductees into the Menlo College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012. During his days as a student athlete for the Oaks, Martinez had a two year career as good as any. The Turlock native is a two-time NAIA All-American and a two-time Menlo College Team MVP. Prior to Menlo, he wrestled for Skyline College, where is shined as a two-time Junior College State Champion, going 61-0 to establish a new COA state record. He currently holds numerous records for his time as a wrestler at both Skyline and Menlo. Martinez graduated from Menlo College in 2003 with a degree in Psyohology.
